Amazon.com Product Description
Slender and stately, Panasonic's PT-47WX53 projection television makes a powerful statement for high quality, rich features, and affordable pricing. The 47-inch set's broad HDTV/EDTV display capability (1080i, 480p) lets you view high-definition or enhanced-definition TV programming from an optional DTV set-top box with an ATSC receiver or from a progressive-scan DVD player. The set's wide, 0.52 mm fine-pitch screen is configured in a 16:9 aspect ratio, the standard for HDTV broadcasts as well as for widescreen DVD movies.

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional video picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Panasonic's Progressive Cinema Scan (3:2 pulldown) provides faithful reproduction of film-based materials. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Progressive Cinema Scan digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Ten-bit A/D image processing boosts conventional grayscale gradations by a factor of four, producing four times as many shades of black and white and a bright picture that closely resembles the original analog source material. A progressive-scan up-converter makes horizontal scan lines virtually invisible.

A motion-adaptive 3D-Y/C digital comb filter displays bright colors and action scenes with incredible clarity by minimizing the "color rainbow effect" in closely spaced patterns, compensating for the motion that occurs between fields. Included 10-bit, 60 MHz analog-to-digital image processing boosts conventional grayscale from 256 to 1,024, delivering four times as many shades of black and white.

Digital velocity-modulated scanning improves definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right. PIP benefits from 8-bit processing, making the inset nearly as crisp as the main picture. The inset picture is scalable in size, from .0625x to .25x.

For connections, the set offers four composite-video inputs, including one in front for easy hookup of a camcorder or gaming console. There are three S-video inputs (including one in front) and two sets of component-video inputs. The TV is also equipped with a direct digital DVI (Digital Visual Interface) connection with HDCP copy protection.

Other features include horizontal and vertical edge correction, Artificial Intelligence Picture Control (continuously monitors signal conditions to maintain high contrast), Artificial Intelligence Sound (minimizes variances in sound level), video noise reduction (compares individual pixels of two consecutive fields, then removes noise), BBE High Definition Sound (improves speech intelligibility and restores musical dynamic range), nine-point user convergence capability, an eye-catching 3-D on-screen menu system, and a light-disk remote control.

Channel banner captures information transmitted with each program--such as station identification and V-chip ratings--and places it onscreen in a semi-transparent banner. An easy-to-clean screen shield protects the screen from nicks, scratches, and fingerprints.

What's in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, and user's manual.

What a GREAT TV, 4 years old & running strong!!   April 2, 2008
Scott M. Harrington (Vegas!!)
I have had this 47" Panasonic TV for almost 4 years now. I bought from C.C. for $999.99 in July 2004 on SALE and I was impressed then & I am STILL impressed now with the picture quality of this TV.
Since 2004, technology has changed, but I am running a 1080i upconvert Panasonic DVD player & have Cable with HD channels running to this TV and WOW. What a NICE picture.
I really would like to get a NEWER TV, maybe 50" - 60" size, but this Panasonic is just soooooo nice! I can't see spending $1500+ just to have a newer TV when this one does the job so well!!
**I kinda wish I would have bought the SAME PANASONIC MODEL in the 52" size at the time I bought this one......it was ON SALE for $1399.99 I remember. Oh, well. I am one very happy customer with this 47" Panasonic TV!!

Great TV.....until the convergence board dies....   March 22, 2008
Keith Nicoll (Austin TX)
TV is a good TV and I had not one problem with it, other than the burn-in on the sides from watching standard broadcast shows, until I learned after trying to claim it under warranty that the image had to be stretched on non-HDTV shows. Otherwise it was a great TV until today....it looks as if someone decided to put a magnet on it and totally distorts the image....apparently from what i read online, the convergence board appears to have died. For a 4 yr old TV, I was just waiting for something to go wrong with it, since I only had warranty on it for 2 yrs, so Murphy's Law reared it's ugly head. I just wish TV makers would make TVs that last as long as they used to last. I've had a CRT go bad that was only 2 yrs old and now this rear proj TV. Next TV I get I know will be a flat panel of some type, but make sure I get appropriate coverage. But I've seen TVs from the 50s and 60s still used to this day so obviously the quality of components is not what it used to be.

  Great TV   November 27, 2006

I bought this HDTV in 04 and have been in love with it ever since. DVD's look awesome with progressive scan and HD cable looks so clear it feels like you are there when using component cables and 1080i. I recently purchased an XBox 360, which outputs every game in 1080i. Once again it looks great. Sorry PS2, the TV only has 2 component inputs so I can't have this plugged in anymore. I have not had any problems. The reasons I am giving this HDTV 4 out of 5 stars are the lack of 720p and 1080p display, only 2 component inputs, no HDMI input, and a DVI input that seems is not compatible with anything I own. If you only have one or two HD electronics this is the TV for you.

Just wanted to say we bought this tv in July. It was delivered to our door and installed by the delivery men. The only problem was the shippers seemed to think Montana was in Utah. But, once we got the geography problem fixed the TV was delivered and we just love it.

Wonderful pictures, DVD's are just awesome.

I highly recomend this TV.

i have a 350 dvd collection and i watch a lot of tv and let me tell you.. this tv is awesome, and it's not true that tv shows in 4:3 format are distorded, the look the same they fit te screen without messing the image up. You need a few days to get used to the size and format but it's the same has a 4:3 tv. In all the project tv i saw before buying this one .. this one has the clearest picture and more settings and alot of inputs and the Components part ... wow pictures looks awesome for dvds. Seriously this is one of the best projection tvs around. If you watch it under 16x9 all the time (wich you should) will work for years and years and years....
